Mechanical Engineering combines engineering, physics and mathematics with materials science to design, analyse, thermal , manufacture and maintain mechanical systems. The exciting part is mechanical systems can be found across every sector imaginable. As a mechanical engineer, you can work in almost any field that sparks your interest.

Mechanical engineers have a large impact on our lives because their work focuses on creating technologies to meet human needs. Almost every product or service in everyday life is influenced in some way by a mechanical engineer. Mechanical engineers frequently apply their knowledge to solve contemporary problems. They create future solutions in health care, energy, transportation, world hunger, space exploration, climate change, sustainability and many more.

*Why Mechanical Engineering?*

Mechanical Engineers work across a huge variety of industries conceptualizing, designing, and creating machines as well as their components. Though it is one of the oldest engineering disciplines, it is also one that continues to change and grow with advancements in technology making it a vibrant and exciting career path even to this day.

Mechanical Engineering is ever green core branch. Evergreen means that mechanical Engineering knowledge is required for every field. It is the branch of engineering which deals with the systematic study of following Mode

1) Machine Design , 2)Thermal and Energy,3)Robotics and Automation,4) Computer aided Engineering, 5) Marine Engineering , 6) Mechatronics, 7) Manufacturing and Production, 8) Aerospace Engineering 9) Automobile Engineering , 10) Metallurgy and Material science, 11)industrial engineering , 12) Acoustical engineering, 13)Biomechanical engineering, 14)Flow physics and computational engineering, 15) Mechanics and computation engineering, 16)Nanotechnology

Because mechanical engineering is a broad topic, there are many engineering specialties that can fit within its scope. Some of the most common mechanical engineering branches where graduating students could find careers include:

Machine Design

The purpose of Machine Design is to understand the fundamentals of designing the most commonly used parts, elements and units of various machines. Small components of machine on assembling make a big machine, hence the machine as a whole as well as its individual components have to be designed and deals with the study of all types of machine design and their mechanism wherever it is applicable.

Thermal & Energy

It is a specialized sub-discipline of mechanical engineering that deals with the movement of heat energy and transfer. The energy can be transformed between two mediums or transferred into other forms of energy. Some components that a thermal engineer could work with include heat exchangers, heat sinks, bi-metals strips, radiators and many more.

Robotics and automation

Robotics & Automation combines design, construction, operation, and application of robots coupled with computer based control systems, sensory feedback, and information processing. The design of a robotic system puts together principles of electronic engineering, mechanical engineering and computer engineering.

Computer Aided Engineering

Known more popularly as CAE and used in combination with CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing), it is mainly refers to the use of computers and relevant software for carrying out design, analysis, simulation of various machines and procedures. It is used in various disciplines such as automobile design, naval architecture etc. to name a few.

Marine Engineering This branch of mechanical engineering relates to the operation and maintenance of propulsion and other machines on board ships. The machinery on a ship ranges from main propulsion plant, auxiliary generators, boilers, purifiers, pumps and so forth.

Mechatronics is a recent addition to the mechanical engineering branch and refers to a combination of mechanical, computer and electronics engineering. Hence it can said to be a hybrid branch which cover several fields at the same time.

Manufacturing and production

Manufacturing engineering requires the ability to plan the practices of manufacturing; to research and to develop tools, processes, machines and equipment; and to integrate the facilities and systems for producing quality products with the optimum expenditure of capital.

The manufacturing or production engineer's primary focus is to turn raw material into an updated or new product in the most effective, efficient & economic way possible.

Aerospace Engineering

This branch deals with flying machines. In fact this has been further subdivided into two main parts – aeronautical and astronautically engineering which deal with aeroplanes and spacecrafts respectively.

Automobile Engineering

Automobile engineering is a branch study of engineering which teaches manufacturing, designing, mechanical mechanisms as well as operations of automobiles. It is an introduction to vehicle engineering which deals with motorcycles, cars, buses, trucks, etc. It includes branch study of mechanical, electronic, software and safety elements.

Metallurgy and Material Science.

This field deal with how, what and where we use materials for engineering need. So the scope is very vast and important.

Industrial Engineering. It is the branch of engineering that concerns the development, improvement, implementation and evaluation of integrated systems of people, knowledge, equipment, energy, material and process. Industrial engineering draws upon the principles and methods of engineering analysis and synthesis.

Acoustical Engineering: the manipulation and control of vibration in order to reduce unwanted noise

Biomechanical Engineering: the application of engineering theory to medicine

Flow physics and computational engineering: the intersection of sciences, engineering, mathematics, and computer science

Flow Physics and Computational Engineering: It is contributing new theories, models, computational tools and laboratory measurements for accurate engineering design analysis and control of complex flows including acoustics, transition, heat transfer, chemical reactions, biofluids, complex fluids, plasmas, and other phenomena of interest in aerodynamics, electronics cooling, environmental engineering, materials processing, planetary entry, propulsion and power systems, and other areas.

Mechanics and Computation Engineering: the application of mechanics to solids, fluids, biological tissue, and complex materials

Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is a field of research and innovation concerned with building 'things' - generally, materials and devices - on the scale of atoms and molecules. A nanometre is one-billionth of a metre: ten times the diameter of a hydrogen atom. The diameter of a human hair is, on average, 80,000 nanometres.

Carrier opportunity of Mechanical Engineer:
